Landing at the Pole by Lueb-Art
Landing at the Pole
Santa landing with his reindeer and sleigh at his home at the North Pole. Below left the landing strip covered in snow is seen, along with all the other necessary buildings to get the annual job done. All models created with ZBrush, rendered with Keyshot Bridge.

I'm much happier with these recent experiments with the smoke. It's much like "herding cats" as it's hard to make something concrete out of clouds and smoke. I was just looking for some sort of design for the smoke to take up in the background without dominating the image. Though areas will be subdued and toned down likely, I'm satisfied. I started introducing a bit of color with the exploding pockets of moisture in the air. In the science of explosion, the high speed of the shock wave from the explosion causes the moist air to suddenly vaporize, creating those flashes of brightness. So next is to keep working with this mess of smoke a bit, add some background objects, maybe some smoke stacks that would identify the target as industrial, and start adding color along with the plane in the background and of course some bombs being dropped. There's something gritty about the B-26 Marauder that I like. It's not very elegant looking, just a solid, powerful piece of aerodynamics made for a quick infill and exfil for delivering destruction. I think some gritty looking smoke might do it some justice hopefully.

Second WIP example. I've been building up layers of background, looking for an energetic, smokey, firey, explosive type background. I'm using mostly Painter particle brushes to achieve all kinds of effects, mostly smoke, fire particles. Then I go over areas with a darker or lighter airbrush, trying to balance the extreme details of the background with the subject. I like the tiny details, but I don't want them to distract the eye away from the plane, at least not too much, but enough to make the visual adventure fun. After I'm happy with the smoke and fires, etc., I want to paint in some factory smokestacks and the other Marauder.  I'm using several different photo references of mostly WWII bombing runs, and though I have a long way to go I enjoy the process of letting my stylus go, adding another layer, repeating, erasing, until I have the look I'm after. This can go on for a long time. It's an adventure, right now a messy one. More later.

Low Level Repaint 2
Total hand-painted version of the Low Level painting, which was a 3D influenced image turned into 2D painting. I'm using the 3D version as reference as long as a lot of photographic references. This is an early phase, just having finished the majority of details on the Marauder, the Sessanta Nova?, the subject of the painting. The lighting is mostly diffuse, and I'll develop the rest of the lighting along with the evolution of the painting. I like painting like this, kind of an adventure in art.
